We have just celebrated opening a digital learning lab and library in Ratanpur School, Gandhinagar. The Ratanpur School is a state school that we at Go Dharmic have adopted and for which we act as a patron.
Estee Advisors had sponsored the digital lab, and the Jaspar Foundation funded the library. So a huge thank you to both for partnering with us and making this project a reality.
The event took place on the 29th of July 2022, with the Principal, teachers, and Sarpanch, the local village head, in attendance. Also in attendance were dignitaries from our partner Estee Advisors, as well as the village pupils, parents and seniors.
Lasting about two hours, before a shared lunch with the children from the school, we had group activities and games in the library for the pupils and attendees to commemorate the opening. We also explored and demonstrated the facilities.
The digital learning lab, the first in any government school in Gandhinagar, will be open for pupils in classes 5 to 8 to facilitate and support their education. We also intend for this facility to be opened up to more in the future, to support additional digital learning and experience for those in the village.
The day itself was a fabulous delight. Seeing the warmth on the parents’ and teachers’ faces exposed how crucial this project was to the health and well-being of the children and the village.
We had mothers and fathers from the village conveying their gratitude to us, saying that, through this laboratory and library, we had opened up the children’s futures — that we have given them the potential for a better and fuller life. It will be a moment that we at Go Dharmic will treasure forever.
Maitri, one of the parents, shared with our volunteer, “My children are in class 6 and 7 respectively. I am sure the facility that has been provided to them through you is going to make a huge difference in their lives. I am very happy today that my children will get an opportunity to study extra books and learn computers!”
In the West, we take education for granted; in Gandhinagar, however, we saw what the potential for education means to children and families. The power of learning was made tangible.
