Last week Go Dharmic inaugurated three libraries in Kerala, India along with donating books and furniture. Our GD volunteers travelled to the schools and stayed there for almost 20 days to build the libraries. It is always such an enriching and humbling experience for our volunteers to travel and visit such schools and interact and learn from the local people, children and culture. We were joined by volunteers from the UK which included GD’s co-founder Dr Nicholas Sutton, who is also the director at Oxford Universities Centre for Hindu Studies, and was accompanied by his family Devaki Sutton and Erin Sutton.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our cyclists Arvind Kumar, David Brooks, Karen Chandler-Smith, Les Male, Hemal Randerwala who participated in Cycle The Salt Ride 2019 in the month of December and raised funds that have helped to build 3 libraries in Kerala which have made an impact in the lives of more than 1500 children.
Our team and volunteers went to Waynad where we collaborated with the Vanmani Mananthyavadi School in the Mananthyavadi area of Kerela where we opened the library which has the capacity of serving 1,044 children at once and Go Dharmic donated 231 books to this library.
Once the school was established, we went to Thiruvananthapuram where we collaborated with the Govt L.P. School located in Vizhinjam. We donated 320 books and built a library which is serving more than 200 children right now. Dr. Nicholas Sutton from the UK and shared his experience as ‘This week I have had the privilege of going to two schools in Kerala where Go Dharmic volunteers have opened libraries for the children. The one shown here is in Vizhinjam where most of the children are sons and daughters of fishermen who go out in all weathers to feed their families’
After the success of the second library, we moved forward to build the third library in Aruvippuram, Thiruvananthapuram where our friends at Sivagiri Sree Narayana Central School invited us to build a library. Go Dharmic donated 200 books and furniture, helping more than 200 children with their education.
We are so proud of our volunteers who helped us in our Shape a Future initiative with utmost honesty and motivation to help these children.
