Statistics give a clear picture of the ground reality. In developing countries like India, the dropout rate of school-going children is alarmingly high.
According to the official data of the government, of the 100 students that enroll for the school, only 70 finish. While the problem is severe, it is not insurmountable. It has been observed that this is graver in the far-flung areas of rural India.
So, what are real reasons that have the potential to have detrimental effects on the future of the country?
Data presents a grimmer picture of the state of infrastructure in the schools, with some of them lacking basic facilities like electricity, school benches, washrooms and sometimes even teachers.
Under our campaign ‘Shape a Future’ we want to contribute to this change. Recently at a Government Middle school in a village named Kainchi in the state of Uttarakhand, the GoDharmic team had multiple interactions with the principal of the school and were informed that the school dropout rate rises particularly during the months of winter. The reason for such a sudden spurt in the school dropout rate during the winter months was attributed to the lack of benches in the classrooms. The students were compelled to sit on the floor while attending the classes as there were no proper sitting arrangements available, which caused quite a lot of discomfort to the kids.
GoDharmic took it upon themselves to build a cohesive learning space for the students studying at not only the Middle school but also two other schools located in the vicinity. Go Dharmic team put in a lot of effort to source benches from the local market which was located approximately 35 kilometers from the village, Kainchi. Go Dharmic team is quite thankful to the village head, Shri. Sagar Pandey for facilitating transportation of the benches from the market area to the school.
Finally, we distributed the benches to not one but three schools namely – Primary school (Kainchi), Middle school (Kainchi) and Middle school (Guniyalekh).

Mr. Sartaj Alag, a generous donor from the US also made a donation to install more of such benches in a school located at Paldi village near Guniyalekh in Uttrakhand.
The team at GoDharmic is extremely grateful to all the donors who have shown empathy and extended a helping hand towards this act of kindness which will go a long way in nurturing the dreams of children who cannot claim themselves to be privileged.
