Heart of Seva: A Spotlight on Fiona’s Volunteer Journey

We’re thrilled to shine a light on one of our dedicated volunteers, Fiona, whose enthusiasm and passion has made a real difference in our local Glasgow community.

Fiona has been a regular volunteer with Go Dharmic since 2020. She was driven to take action after witnessing a rise in food insecurity, which was exacerbated when the world came to a standstill during the Covid lockdown.

We sat down with Fiona to ask her about her journey with Go Dharmic, and why she chooses to spend her time in seva with us.

Read on to learn more about her journey with our nonprofit and what drives her continued commitment.

GD: What initially drew you to our nonprofit, and why did you decide to volunteer with us?

Fiona: I had recently retired and was looking for a volunteering role. I liked the ethos of the charity, and I saw an opportunity to get involved as the Glasgow branch was just starting up. It felt like the perfect way to contribute to something meaningful from the ground up.

GD: Can you share a specific experience or moment while volunteering that reinforced your commitment to our cause?

Fiona: I’ve always hated the amount of food waste in our society. Our Tuesday night food distribution is something that gives me enormous satisfaction, knowing that I’m helping people in need while preventing perfectly good food from going to waste. We later expanded to distributing food parcels in Govan, which has been equally rewarding.

GD: How do you think your involvement with our nonprofit has made a difference in the community or for the people we serve?

Fiona: The gratitude we receive from those we help makes it all worthwhile. It’s clear that we’ve supported many families, and knowing that we’ve made their lives a little easier is incredibly fulfilling.

GD: What do you find most rewarding about volunteering with our organisation?

Fiona: The most rewarding aspect is feeling like I’m making a difference, even in a small way, by easing the burden on families who are struggling. It’s also satisfying to assist the people we serve in George Square. Being able to help, even in a small capacity, makes a big impact on those who need it most.

GD: In your opinion, what sets our nonprofit apart from others, and why do you continue to support us?

Fiona: It’s the ethos of the charity and the wonderful volunteers who make it so easy to continue supporting the cause. Hemel, in particular, is truly inspirational, and I enjoy being a part of everything we do as an organisation.

Fiona is an invaluable member of our Go Dharmic family. Thank you, Fiona, for your dedication and the positive impact you’ve made. We’re incredibly grateful to have you on our team!

Join us and be a Fiona to someone in need.  Embark on a journey of compassion and make a positive impact in your community.
