We have a new team member in our Ahmedabad office, who’s working on some amazing projects in India!

Matt Reese-Edwards began his volunteering with Go Dharmic when he attended our weekly homeless feedings in Luton. Here he met some of the team and began to learn a little more about the charity and the campaigns we are working on.

At the end of 2019, Matt decided to quit his job, he was working as a Product Owner and decided to explore India. He was interested in learning more about India’s history, and to practice yoga in the country, it originated in, however, when he reached there he was shocked to see the extreme poverty that encompasses the country.

Due to what he witnessed first hand whilst traveling around the country, he got in touch with the Ahmedabad team and decided he wanted to do some work for our #ShapeAFuture campaign. This campaign aims to reduce world poverty through developing libraries and giving children the kickstart they need to excel in life. So far, the campaign has developed 62 libraries in India and Nepal, with the aim of developing 2,000 by 2026.

What is Matt doing?

Matt and the GD team have decided that they will work towards developing 4 libraries in different locations in the Northern Himalayas. The libraries will be located in 4 very remote schools in the state of Uttarakhand. Many of the schools in the area lack any additional reading material apart from curriculum-based books. The libraries will enable students to improve their literacy as well as learn the information and skills required for them to be able to make better decisions in life and create better opportunities for themselves in the future.

Nearly 1,000 children will be positively impacted by the 4 libraries, not only helping existing students but will also attract new students to enroll at the schools!

Matt’s fundraising target is £4,000, which will cover the costs of developing all 4 libraries. Any donation is helpful, however big or small! He is halfway to reaching the target, and you could help him to reach it!

Whilst Matt has been in Ahmedabad he’s also been taking part in our other campaign #FeedEveryone.

From all of us at Go Dharmic, a huge thank you to Matt for choosing to spend his time supporting our campaigns, we wish him the best of luck in reaching his fundraising target!
