Go Dharmic volunteers feed hundreds of meals to the homeless in Northampton

Go Dharmic feeds homeless in Northampton Banner

Go Dharmic announced on Jan 17 th a goal to help feed the vulnerable across England’s East Midlands region by providing hot meals to the rough sleepers and vulnerable alongside a snack bag to the beneficiaries. Working together with Bill Boorman from community charity group- Northampton Hope Centre, Amarjit Atwal from the Sikh Community Centre and Youth Club, Natasha from Earth Lonely Angels/ The Loving Chef and Teresa from The McCarthy Dixon Foundation (The Swan & Helmet), in its first month of service a total of 211 meals were served. Over the last six weeks, a total of 302 meals have been served with the team aiming to hit the 500 meal target by mid-March 2021.

With the mission and motto of “Love all, Feed All, Serve All”, Sunday 31st March saw the snack bags prepared by two lovely kids aged 7 with the help of their parents; February 7th brought one of our youngest volunteers Sebastian aged 9 to the Sunday service and Sunday 28th February saw snack bags being prepared by an 89-year old loving grandmother with assistance from her granddaughter.

Barry Goudriaan, a long-standing supporter of Go Dharmic in Northamptonshire, said, “Sundays were strategically chosen as that is the only day that Northampton Hope Centre does not operate and there was a gap in the lunchtime service. A typical Sunday service outside the Go Dharmic Office on Notre Dame Mews NN1 2BG ( operating from 11.30am -12.30pm ) witnesses volunteers getting together preparing the snack bags, getting the hot urns and table ready, putting the marquee out with the tables snack bags and hot meals and also walking around town with the hot meals and snack bags in a big thermal bag to deliver to end-users who may not be able to come to us personally. The team consists of 12-15 volunteers who work on a rotary basis to ensure that they also get to spend time with their family.”

Our sponsorship for the hot meals for Sunday 21st February was received from Kailash Karia and Nishi Kataria from Platinum Sounds and Covid0Care Ltd (Leicester), and the sponsorship for Sunday 28th February for the hot meals and the snacks for the snack bags were again received from Shailesh, Nicki, Dee and Vanita on behalf of the Leicester Cha Raja team & Shirdi Sai, Satya Sai and Ganesh Bhagwan.

“In the service of others lies our own. May the people we aid through this selfless service feel welcome and appreciated with the small joy that we bring to their day. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to all our donors and charitable partners who we work with to make Go Dharmic a success. Special thanks to our volunteers who show up whatever the weather to carry out this act of selfless service” remarked Savan Shah, Northampton lead volunteer.

Hemal Randerwala, Founder & Chairman, Go Dharmic, added “Not only do our volunteers donate, they actually get involved themselves and make a difference at ground level, bringing their expertise and skills to help those who most need it. The whole idea of Go Dharmic is for us as individuals to be responsible for our own social actions and get involved in relieving the suffering of others and improving lives. We aspire to be one of the most efficient platforms for social giving, enabling public donations to go to the causes and for this to happen, charities like Northampton Hope Centre play a key role in powering Go Dharmic. Their belief in GD ultimately allows us to operate on this scale and contribute to our growth trajectory.”
