Nitin Sonowane

Nitin Sonowane

This week, the Go Dharmic team in London had the pleasure of meeting with Nitin Sonowane, an inspirational individual from Pune in India. Over the past 3 years, Nitin has walked over 5000KM and cycled 25000KM, and is planning to increase this figure when he walks from Glasgow to London, just in time for Gandhi’s 150th birthday celebrations in London on the 2nd of October 2019.

Nitin started his journey in 2016, with a cycle around India, and since then has travelled around East Asia, South America, Africa, and is now starting his European adventures. He told us that although he has been away from home and travelling for over 3 years now, he still plans to travel for 1 more year before returning home to India and making his final stop in Pakistan!

Many people ask Nitin why he chose to start this adventure when he was working in a well-established engineering job which he quit. He mentioned that he did not feel his passion lay in engineering, whilst working, he was not happy in his role, therefore he decided to put his career on pause and pursue his passion for world peace.

When travelling Nitin holds talks and lectures at schools and universities which promote love, peace and Gandhi’s teachings, along with encouraging people to move away from committing violent acts which are the norm in many societies.

Whilst travelling, Nitin tries to avoid using public transportation or cars as much as possible. He walks and cycles for the majority of his travels, and only uses planes, trains and buses when he has to. His accommodation and food are also often provided to him by kind supporters of his message, he stays with them or sets up his tent in any secure location he can find. The fact he is able to do this highlights that there is some humanity left in the world when all we hear in the media and from those around us is often the bad things happening not the good.

During his visit to the Go Dharmic office in London, Nitin met with our team members and founder Hemal Randerwala. He did a Facebook live with us, which gives a little bit of insight into how much of a peaceful personality he is, and how Go Dharmic are planning on supporting him during his journey from Glasgow to London.
