Over 200 people joined the online event which helped raise funds for aid to homeless and vulnerable people.
Michael Holding, a former and prominent West Indies cricketer and a highly strong personality with his views on racism, joined the Go Dharmic’s Christmas Fundraiser event alongside Devon Malcolm, the former English cricketer, and Caroline Haughey QC, a practising barrister in the United Kingdom.
The #blacklivesmatter movement took a historic turn in May 2020. It played a massive role by being a catalyst of change against racism. Many prominent figures around the world came out in its support. Michael Holding, often known as “whispering death” for his game in cricket also came out in its support.
Here is what the recipient for the award Freedom of the city of London had to say regarding racism, “I think this is what the world should be about- The people helping each other. Whether you are white or black, once you are a human being, you should be seen as a human being willing to help each other.”
He emphasized on socio-cultural problems faced due to colour, the injustice that led to innumerable other problems that one had to face on a daily basis and the trauma one has to undergo to fight against it.
Go Dharmic strongly believes in ‘Love All. Feed All. Serve All.’ With this fundraiser, the organisation aimed at sharing insights from practising professionals in the field to common people who would like to come forward and work towards it with Go Dharmic acting as a platform for means of communication and volunteers.
“I think, both with Go Dharmic and as a global community, together we have a unique opportunity to serve in the world and to bring some real joy to people and relieve suffering wherever we see it. Whether that’s through promoting or highlighting the Black Lives Matter movement or serving our environment which is in such a disastrous state at the moment, I think that’s where we got this God-given opportunity to serve.” – Hemal Randerwala, Founder of Go Dharmic.
Devon Malcolm & Caroline Haughey also joined the conversation and shared their experiences and thoughts regarding the way we all as a community can come forward to take interest in simplest conversations and thereby know about the wellbeing of a person right next to us.
“The conversations can start with a simple question like, ‘Are you okay?’” – Caroline Haughey QC
Help can start with simple questions and by listening to people. Such questions lead to conversation and hence can act as a means to know if someone is being victimized.
The fundraiser was held on 17th December 2020, on an online platform. Around 200+ people tuned in the event with the majority of people joining in as ‘cricket fans’. They were left with thought-provoking statements by their side to go out and ponder upon.
