The Salt Ride is the commemoration of Mahatma Gandhi’s march from Sabarmati to Dandi in order to break the Salt Tax 90 years ago. Go Dharmic, a non-profit organisation based on human values of love and compassion organise this annual cycling event where individuals pledge to cycle for charitable causes, over the month of December 2020.
Due to the pandemic, The Salt Ride will be taking place virtually, where participants can cycle from their own locations, even from their homes. It aims to promote the idea of a Fit India as well as a fit world. Decathlon, as an event partner, will help promote participation in the event whilst promoting Go Dharmic’s causes.
Participants will aim to cycle either 100, 200 or 400 km over the month of December and register their rides on their personal fitness apps. This will help them improve their fitness and also help raise awareness for our Environmental campaigns.
‘Go Dharmic is doing some really great work around the world and Decathlon is really happy to collaborate with them. To encourage sports is our only motto and what better than promoting a noble cause with sports. Hope to see a lot of participants at the event and all the luck to Go Dharmic and their selfless volunteers.’ – Priyanka Shetty, Sports Leader, Cycling Department, Decathlon.
Last year volunteers from the UK, Nepal, UAE and states all over India joined the Salt Ride.
One of last year’s participants, Dubai Gold & Commodities CEO, Les Male Said, ‘I am honoured to have cycled the historic route from Ahmedabad to Dandi. It is challenging but it is for an incredible cause and a brilliant organisation. Across the six days we tried to encourage positive social action and draw attention to the immediate need to preserve our environment. I commend Go Dharmic for putting this important initiative together and the launch of the new campaign to plant 1 Million trees, and look forward to working with the team to make a real difference.’
Go Dharmic Founder, Hemal Randerwala said, ‘The Salt Ride last year brought an amazing group of people together to remember the values Mahatma Gandhi represented. The salt ride is an opportunity to reflect upon the values of non-violence and peace, to improve our mental and physical fitness and to help vulnerable people get through this difficult time.’
