Many of us are pricked by the contrast between our own easy spending and the widespread poverty and deprivation around us but have no idea how to help. You can start by moving from quiet guilt to effective action by helping combat hunger among deserving people. Either on your own or by joining a team of like-minded people, you can arrange to cook simple meals and distribute them to the needy in your city. That’s what our member Debabrata Mondal and his team of 9 passionate volunteers recently did in Paushi, some 189 km from the City of Joy, Kolkata by providing over 300 meals to the orphans!
Anath Ashram has been running the orphanage at Paushi since 1995 for the benefit of abandoned and destitute children belonging to poor and downtrodden sections. The orphanage is located in a remote village named Paushi, in East Midnapore city on the South Western coast of Bengal. The journey of Anath Ashram is truly a fascinating one. It started about 25 years back through the emotional act of a local inhabitant, Baloram Karan, who intuitively brought home an unfortunate child of a nearby locality, whom he found desperately searching for food from a garbage bin. This culminated to today’s Anath Ashram, an orphanage par excellence, where several destitute children are being brought up under the watchful eyes of the Ashram management.
Go Dharmic as always played its part in helping the needy by visiting and donating to this orphanage in Paushi on 21st March, 2021. Over 300 Veg Thalis consisting of rice, dal, fried potato, sabji, paneer, papad and tomato chutney were handed out to the orphans during the visit. The donation drive by the team of volunteers brought joy to the orphans aged between seven and seventeen as they played games and spent time with the children. All the volunteers followed proper norms of social distancing and could be seen wearing proper masks, hand gloves and with sanitizers.
Hemal Randerwala, Founder & Chairman, Go Dharmic, said “We believe that these children deserve to be guided to a good and better future and sometimes all that they need is support to realise their potentials. We want them to grow up strong, healthy, and have the same opportunity for education like other privileged children. We would like to applaud the team of good dharma patrons led by Debabrata for their selfless work. The whole idea of Go Dharmic is for us as individuals to be responsible for our own social actions and get involved in relieving the suffering of others and improving lives. We aspire to be one of the most efficient platforms for social giving, enabling public donations to go to the causes.”
Go Dharmic’s Feed Everyone campaign aims to ensure that hunger never comes in the way of a brighter future. We aim at giving the lesser privileged enlightenment, knowledge and help them utilize opportunities in a better way to grow and overcome the hurdles of their lives. Our endeavour is to give equal opportunities to every child in society. As part of the initiative, we have delivered over 3 million meals during COVID! Together, with several other food bank volunteers, your time can make a difference in the lives of your neighbours struggling with hunger. Help us get food in the hands of those who need it the most!
Any gift you give makes a big difference to the receiver! You can replicate similar work being done here. Consider donating to our Feed Everyone campaign.
