This month Go Dharmic increased the number of libraries we’ve developed to 37, bringing us even closer to our target of having 50 Go Dharmic libraries by the end of 2019!
New Town, Kolkata is home to an upcoming and fast-growing city. It has been named as the ‘solar city’ and will soon be declared as a ‘Smart Green City’ due to the city’s great sustainability. The city is also planned to be home to India’s first-ever WiFi-connected road, which requires the newest technology to be implemented.
Having seen the great potential in the city, it was clear to us that we had to help the kids living in the poorer parts of New Town, the schools really need a lot of help and upgrading.

Once again, we have been working with our partners over at Futures First to develop this library. The FF team is part of the family. They have been a huge support to our Shape a Future campaigns and to the growth of GD in general. Thank you to Anil Batra, Susmita Dutta, and Elad Hushton for your ongoing support, which without we wouldn’t be able to continue our work.
So far, Go Dharmic and Futures First have developed 7 libraries, helped 3 schools with infrastructure assistance and sponsored 7 underprivileged children’s education for a whole year. We hope that there are many more Go Dharmic and Futures First projects in the future.
The new library was developed in the Jatragachi Pranabananda High School in the New Town area, where there was no spaces where the students could relax and independently learn through reading. The library space for their students to enjoy and support their learning will benefit 2,500 students at the school with a beautiful learning space, which will hopefully inspire the children to aspire to fill the leading professions, whilst increasing school attendance. All of the books provided were funded by donations to Go Dharmic and Futures First contributions to the project.
We would especially like to thank Manish and Ankit from Futures First who worked closely with us for this project, and without whom we wouldn’t have been able to complete our 37th library!
Along with them, we would also like to thank the whole of the Futures First Kolkata office who are very keen to start some Go Dharmic project near them, keep an eye out for updates on this!
Developing libraries help kids in more ways than you think, not only does it provide them with learning space, but the books we provide spark their imaginations and increase their happiness.
Deependra Bhadouria, our India Development Director said;
‘When the children see the books in the library they are filled with curiosity and seeing the smiles on their faces is a stand out feeling. Providing the library facilities which they have been deprived of for the past years is immensely satisfying.’
Getting involved with one of our library projects is easier than you think, please contact info@godharmicstag.wpenginepowered.com to find out how you could be the next volunteer developing a library with Go Dharmic!
