Say NO to food dumping! Ensuring zero food wastage

‘I live to eat’ is one of the most famous lines said by food connoisseurs worldwide. But there are millions of people who remain hungry.

According to the United Nations, one in nine people does not have sufficient food to lead a healthy life. Hunger kills more people every day than AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined. At the same time, nearly one-third of the food produced in the world is wasted. Food wastage is not only morally irresponsible but also causes severe damage to our environment.

We plan to bridge the gap between those who suffer from hunger and those whose food is wasted. This can be done by managing food sustainably and reducing waste. Go Dharmic volunteers are trying to help reduce food wastage and feed more people by partnering with restaurants in the UK, USA, and India.

We have reduced the carbon footprints of our donors and the ever-increasing wastage of water through our intervention of saving the cooked food from going into bins. Wasted food goes to the landfills where it rots to produce Methane. Methane is a greenhouse gas that is 28 times more potent than Carbon dioxide. It hangs around our environment for 12 years and traps most of the heat from the Sun.

When we look at statistics, 82% of hungry people live in countries with a food surplus. All this is because one-third of the food is never consumed. We need to reach out to people, collect surplus food and make it available to people in need. We are trying to make a difference by reducing hunger and food wastage through social media and networking. Our mission is to spread peace, love, and compassion globally through the three R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. We believe in maximisation of resources and minimisation of waste, especially of food. Food is a perishable item that cannot be stored for long. Redistributing it timely amongst the needy can save a lot that would otherwise have been thrown away. Awareness and timely distribution can go a long way in the reduction of wastage and feeding hungry mouths.
