Challenge Poverty Week 2021 | Go Dharmic
From the 11th to the 17th of October is Challenge Poverty Week, a time where we can share our thoughts on what needs to be done in order to help our communities. Across England and Wales events are taking place that provides a space for these much-needed conversations to happen. On the 17th, we will also be observing the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. This day is a time where people across the world can come together in solidarity with the poor.
Over 1.3 billion people are recognised by the United Nations and the World Bank as living in poverty. The COVID-19 pandemic has worsened the situation, with somewhere between 88 and 115 million people forced into poverty. Of these 1.3 billion, 795 million do not have sufficient food to live a healthy lifestyle.
Go Dharmic stands in solidarity with those living through poverty and has committed itself to helping those who need it. Our Feed Everyone campaign highlights the vast amount of food that is wasted and also works to help feed anyone who needs it. We distribute free food across the UK and India and have so far served over 5 million meals.
Meanwhile, our Go Plant-Based campaign highlights the vast amounts of food that are spent on animal agriculture. While people are going hungry, a third of harvested crops are consumed by farm animals. It is estimated that this could theoretically feed an extra 3 billion people.
Finally, our Shape-A-Future campaign aims to develop libraries in poorer communities. Children deserve to have an enjoyable and comfortable learning environment, one which Go Dharmic aims to deliver to one million children by 2026.
You can join us by partaking in Challenge Poverty Week and observing the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. Go Dharmic relies on donations and volunteers to help feed the homeless. We appreciate everyone who comes and helps us distribute food where possible.
