Kind-hearted student organises hot food distribution for needy Edinburgh people

At the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, the charity put its efforts into providing food and hot meals to the people who are desperate for it, and seeing the benefits it brings, Martin has now launched the second distribution chain in Edinburgh.

Martin Dover, 18, is the head of food distribution for the Go Dharmic charity, which aspires to create positive change in the lives of individuals and their communities.

At the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, the charity put its efforts into providing food and hot meals to the people who are desperate for it, and seeing the benefits it brings, Martin has now launched the second distribution chain in Edinburgh.

The initiative – made possible thanks to the partnership with supermarket giant Morrisons and a variety of restaurants – will see a weekly hot food distribution pop-up appear at the Haymarket Station every Sunday. It will run from 2pm to 3pm.

Martin says: “For the homeless and vulnerable people we feed, they often get their only proper meal of the day from us – as well as breakfast for the next day. But they also get the chance to interact and socialise with others again, something they lack, which has massive boosts for their mental health.

“For the families we feed who are struggling with food poverty, we are able to supply them with a mixture of essentials. And helping ensure their budget is able to go a bit further and that the children can be better supported.”

The charity is now seeking more volunteers to join the local team in helping the initiative strive.
